Every case is different, because there are so many variables. Cases with just one missing heir could be completed in a day. However, some cases in which the heirs are unknown turn out to have numerous cousins on the maternal and the paternal side of the family, and these obviously take longer to complete.
We have many researchers who we work with throughout North America and most European countries.
Research America does fee based projects at the rate of $200.00 per hour. We ask for a minimum of two hours. Clients often approve five to ten hours. Based on the status of the case, we give the client an interim or final report.
In some cases, contingent fees are the best option. These fees are negotiated with missing or unknown heirs once they have been located.
Because contingent fees will not affect the known heirs. Neither the personal representative nor the estate attorney incurs any financial obligation when we do the research on a contingent fee basis.
